Plascon adds colour to Toffie Pop Conference
In support of the third annual Toffie Pop Culture Conference and Festival taking place at the Cape Town City Hall from Friday, 30 March to Sunday, 1 April 2012, Plascon has sponsored eighty litres of brightly coloured Plascon Polvin, Cashmere and Double Velvet for a series of inspiring city-wide street murals stretching from Woodstock through to Khayelitsha.
Toffie Pop is a three-day conference and festival with an emphasis on contemporary culture, design, music, magazine, publishing, art and sound design.
Toffie Pop engaged with non-profit organisation, A Word of Art which was founded by Ricky Lee Gordon, to create the murals. Ricky directed teams of artists in residence on three projects facilitated by his outreach directors Juma Mkwela and Willard Kambeva.
Improving the environment
Plascon is proud to be associated with this socially uplifting mural art that improves the surrounding environment for all who see it an enjoy it. These murals were created by teams of international artists, and designed in direct collaboration with individuals and organisations from each community.
Participating artists include Andrzej Urbanski and PENS, both from Germany, Elicser Elliott and Indigo from Canada, and Catherine J Howard from the USA. The various locations for the artwork include the Vukani Nursery School and Educare Centre in Khayelitsha, and private residences on William Street and Cavendish Street in Woodstock.
"Plascon is delighted to be able to add mural design and creative use of colour to the Toffie conference and festival and, more importantly perhaps, to the broader canvas of the city of Cape Town itself as it leads up to the 2014 Design Capital. The Toffie festival provides a wonderful opportunity to engage with the best designers, artists, musicians, film directors, magazine editors and publishers from around the world, and we are excited to be a product partner to this event," says Lauren Shantall, Plascon's communications manager.
