2018 Crown Gospel Music Awards promises #NewLevels
Last year, the late gospel legend Sifiso Ncwane’s Phakama was awarded as the gospel artist of the decade and a tribute by Ayanda Ntanzi saw eyes watering in the crowd. Pastor Benjamin Dube’s consistent and tenacious commitment to his craft won him gospel artist of the decade award. He turned out to collect most trophies on the night, which included best gospel producer and best gospel DVD.
Best clap n tap and best itende saw its first appearance in the categories list. This was due to its growing popularity and the support it enjoys in the gospel industry. As expected, entries for these categories exceeded expectation, but at the end it was The Book of Lekgowa and Thabile Nkosana who lifted the Crowns.
Lifetime achievement award
Awards founder and president Zanele Mbokazi said: “The level keeps rising, that is we're stepping up from last year’s #Levels to this year’s #NewLevels. We celebrated 10 years last and the level of the awards was nothing short of the best. In 2018, all eyes will be on the lifetime achievement award recipient. The public and the gospel industry patrons are invited to send suggestions.”
“This year, the lifetime achievement award will be bestowed to the most deserving industry force, over a convincing lifespan in gospel music. One who has developed produced his or her peers and stayed within the course beyond the call of his or her gospel music duty. Whose contribution and music career is an asset and synonymous with the success of themselves and friends in the fraternity,” continued Mbokazi.
Previous lifetime achievement recipients include Pastor Benjamin Dube, Dr Rebecca Malope, Dr Derrick Nzimande, Sizwe Zako, Lindelani Ngema, and the Joyous Celebration trio of Lindelani Ngema, Jabu Hlongwane, Mthunzi Namba, as well as Sipho Makhabane.
