Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing sponsors Cape festival weekend
Sponsored by one of South Africa's largest apple and pear marketers, Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, its MD, Charles Hughes says the decision to support this festival was an easy one as its products are grown in the Overberg biosphere, which includes the Kogelberg.
Festival highlights
Starting with a Trash to Fash - Junk to Funk recycling fashion show by local eco-school Pringle House on the Friday night, it will be followed by the Kogelberg and Tru-Cape packhouse Challenge timed race on Saturday. Registration is from 6.30am on Saturday with the 21.1 km race beginning at 7.30am; the 10 km at 10.00am and the 5 km fun run/walk at 11.30. Prize giving is at 1pm.
The sponsor's apples and pears will be used in the Best Bake and Potjie Kos competitions on Saturday while the expanded Village Market will feature homemade food, clothes and artisan chocolate. Craft and jewellery will also be available. Artist Anna-Marie Breytenbach will be exhibiting sculpture and pottery and the Festival tent will have food and craft stalls.
For parents and kids
There will be a live music programme from 1pm until late into the evening on Saturday. For adults there is a wine tasting fair and for children a full programme managed by Pringle House Eco-School which will entertain and educate. Aside from old-fashioned apple and pear games, there will be a recycling craft workshop to make puppets, beads and bangles as well as sun catchers.
There will be an educational snake and reptile show for children as well as a guided mountain walk by reptile and fynbos specialist, zoologist Francois van Zyl.
On Sunday, there will be art workshops for the family and a Sunday family lunch served in the tent.
