Tenth Business Day/BASA Awards winners

Companies making innovative and effective use of arts sponsorship were recognised at the 10th Annual Business Day/BASA Awards for business sponsors of the arts earlier this week, sponsored by Anglo American. The awards were presented by Zanele Mbeki, following an address by Evita Bezuidenhout.

The winners are:

    Best Use of a Commission of New Art:

    The Sunday Times (a division of Johnnic Communications) for the Sunday Times Heritage Project

    First Time Sponsor:

The judging panel included Darryl Accone, writer and journalist; Gordon Cook, Vega School of Advertising; Linda Givon, director of the Goodman Gallery; Andrew Human, MDr, The Loerie Awards; Gianni Mariano, director Mastrantonio; Sizakele Marutlulle, advertising consultant; Ivan May, marketing consultant; Fiona Ramsay, actor and media personality; Peter Vundla, executive deputy chairman AMB Capital; and Annie Williamson, sponsorship and marketing consultant. Courtney Mitchell of Grant Thornton monitored the voting process and verified the validity of the results.

The awards were held on Monday, 4 June 2007, in the newly refurbished Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein.
