Eastern Cape hospitality institute backs golf event

The Educational Institute for Service Studies, a hospitality institute based in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, will co-sponsor the South African Airways Open to be held at the Humewood Golf Club 14 - 17 December, because of the potential golf has to grow the South African tourism industry.

Explains Michelle Campbell, marketing director of EISS, "Golf has the potential to contribute significantly to the tourism economy in South Africa. International golf tournaments such as this one brings with it high net worth international tourists either to watch the big players like Ernie Els in action or to play themselves. We have many beautiful golf courses in South Africa, and golf tourism should not be overlooked as a source of increasing foreign tourism revenue.

"EISS offers a hospitality management degree for students looking towards a career in the tourism industry, so it is in our interests to sponsor events that aim to increase tourism and thereby provide more opportunities for our graduates. Our graduates are being offered jobs before they are even finished their degrees, such is the demand for professional hospitality managers in this country," she adds.
