Signature Life Hotels, with owners Cobus Brecher, Nathi Thusi, Alex Shazi, and Albert Lourens, in partnership with the National Empowerment Fund, developed this property at the Jozini Dam, hoping to stimulate the economy and support the region, which is recognised as one of the poorest areas in northern KZN. As a primary gateway to northern Maputoland, KZN and Mozambique, the lodge has recruited over 80 percent of its staff from the local region and is actively involved in the formation of several community and mentoring projects that directly benefit the local population from the business the lodge will provide.

His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithin said: “I declare Jozini Tiger Lodge officially open and am proud to be here seeing what a true partnership between the government and private sector can do to create for the people of Jozini.” Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi commented on “the meaningful use of the very important land and the economic upliftment in the area” and MEC Ina Cronje said: “This is an underdeveloped tourism region with so much to offer and it is commendable that 80 percent of the staff have been taken and trained from the area to work in the hotel.”
