Corporate Social Responsibility by PSL and Premiership Teams
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) in association with the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Education and Training Authority (THETA) has invited all Premiership clubs to partner them in a Corporate Social Responsibility program.
There are a number of students who have qualified in Sports Management, Sports Marketing, Sports Journalism, Sports Administration, Sports Science, Biokinetics and other related fields in sport who struggle to gain practical experience in these fields.
This has a negative effect on them being employed as most companies or employers want graduates and candidates with the necessary experience.
It is with this in mind that the PSL and THETA have joined hands to allow these students the opportunity to gain this experience.
The PSL has requested all clubs open their doors to this wonderful initiative.
“Moroka Swallows has made the first offer to take two interns. This is fantastic and a good sign that the program will succeed,” said Dr. Leepile Taunyane, PSL life President/ CSR Director.
“The PSL over the past 3 years have been giving students opportunities to do an internship at the League's offices. However, in view of the large number of applications the PSL receives, it has decided to call in the help and assistance of PSL clubs to offer opportunities to these students to do their internship with them” added Taunyane.
THETA Project Manager, Lesito Gabarone, is excited by this project.
“This is a flagship program for THETA,” Gaborone explained.
“The Graduate Development Program started in 2006 and our target was to place 7 500 unemployed graduates by 2010. The fact that the PSL will be taking sport graduates, this will help in alleviating unemployment as they are not easily employable” added Gaborone.
PSL CEO, Kjetil Siem, also expressed his excitement.
“Recently, the PSL has had massive help and support from some of our internship students, and if the PSL office and the clubs can help out by giving students necessary work experience it can only benefit all parties concerned. I hope that all clubs will follow Moroka Swallows' example. We always need to educate our young people in our soccer administration as we need to build the next generation of soccer leaders,” Siem said.
All applications to be directed to Dr Taunyane at the PSL's offices.
