Fleur du Cap crowned top cellar at 2008 Veritas Awards
This is the first time that this cellar has achieved three Double Gold medals and been crowned the overall winner at the annual Veritas Awards, South Africa's oldest, largest and most well-known competition for wines currently on the market. Out of the 1 753 entries this year, only 36 wines earned prestigious Double Gold medals.
Fleur du Cap's success at the 2008 Veritas Awards, the wine industry's most authoritative quality guideline, is the result of a team approach at The Bergkelder that starts with meticulous vineyard selection and is driven by an overriding passion for winemaking.
“This is a fantastic achievement for both the viticultural and winemaking team as both play an important role in the success of the cellar. Without their dedication and excellent teamwork this would not have been possible,” said an elated Andrea Freeborough, Cellarmaster at The Bergkelder.
Double Gold status was attained for the exclusive signature blend, Fleur du Cap Laszlo 2004, as well as the Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2007 - that also scooped a Michelangelo Gold medal earlier this year - and the distinctive Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Viognier Chardonnay Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc Limited Release 2007.
The 2007 vintages of Fleur du Cap's highly acclaimed Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc and Noble Late Harvest bagged two Gold medals, which the prized Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2007 adds to a 2008 Michelangelo Gold medal, the South African Airways (SAA) White Wine Trophy of the Year and top 10 listing at the 2007 WINE Magazine Tops at Spar Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 competition.
