Amy's success was celebrated alongside wins for A1 Team Netherlands and A1 Team Switzerland as A1GP made its series debut at Kyalami having raced in Durban previously.

Lombard won a TW Steel watch and US$1500 along with the title of 'Miss TW Steel South Africa', having impressed both the judges and the enthusiastic crowd on hand to watch the competition, held between the Sprint and Feature races in a packed weekend schedule.

Sunday's judges included Claudia Henkel, no stranger to such competitions having won ‘Miss South Africa' in 2005, and Zino Ventura, the reigning ‘Mr South Africa.' They were joined on the panel by TW Steel CEO, Jordy Cobelens, and Gary Hopkins from Luxco, TW Steel's South African distributor, as well as Simon Robinson from A1GP.

Amy Lombard will now be flown to London, England later in the year to go head to head with the other national winners of ‘Miss TW Steel', each competition being hosted on A1GP race weekends. In addition to aiming to be crowned ‘Miss TW Steel 2008-09', the overall winner will be presented with US$25,000 in prize money and enjoy a photo-shoot with a leading lifestyle magazine.

“I'm absolutely thrilled to have won,” commented Lombard. “It's been a great weekend here in Kyalami and I really enjoyed taking part in ‘Miss TW Steel'. I can't believe I've won and I'm obviously pretty excited to be going to London for the first time in summer to compete, and represent South Africa, in the grand final.”

“Amy was a popular choice with the judges and her joy at winning was fairly evident,” said TW Steel's chief executive officer, Jordy Cobelens. “The crowd was really getting into the spirit of the event here at Kyalami which was fantastic to see and I think everyone, from the finalists, the judges and the fans, had a great time. South Africa is an important market for TW Steel, retailing in every province, so it was good to build on our brand awareness in support of our partnership with A1GP.”

The 2008-09 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport heads to Portugal for Round 6, hosted at the brand new Autodromo International do Algarve in Portimao, Friday, 10 April - Sunday, 12 April.
