Dave Ferguson and Friends - One night only

On Wednesday, 4 December 2013, Lonesome Dave is due to deliver a rockstar-studded show at Cape Town's Mercury Live. As one in the series of collaborative live music events, this "Waxing Lyrical" promises to be something special.
Dave Ferguson and Friends - One night only

Ferguson, being many things all at once, is best known in South Africa for his solo looping performances where he plays the harmonica, beatboxes and sings inspired original songs as well as mash-ups of an eclectic selection of cover songs.

An international blues harmonica player praised for his ability and ingenuity, Dave has shared the stage with the likes of Ian Siegal, Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters), The Arlenes, Emily Barker, Sophia, John Townes Van Zandt, Michelle Shocked, Candye Kane, Lucky Oceans (Asleep at the Wheel), Dave Clarke, Winston Delandro (Bob Marley), and Thin Lizzy's Brian Robertson. But this time his guests include some of this country's musical elite - both big names and talented newcomers.

Roots blues duo Mean Black Mamba will be holding down the groove with drummer James van Minnen and guitarist Guy Collins. There'll be haunting harmonies with Lani Pieters in the sway. Alternative country rocker Andy Lund, soulful Gerald Clark, sax supremo Buddy Wells and Freshlyground's Kyla Rose Smith are also in the mix. Inge Beckmann adds her flair to the fire. And some of Ferguson's ex-band members visit from far away: drummer Theron Peterson from Atlanta, Georgia and bassist Roger Bashew from Hout Bay. Even Springbok Nude Girls Arno Carstens and Theo Crous will take the stage.

Ferguson says this of his formidable line-up: "Having had the stage name Lonesome Dave unwillingly thrust upon me, I'm thrilled to discover I'm not entirely without friends."

This show promises to include more of the country music side of Dave's influences, as well as the purely groove-based blues offerings.

"Putting a show like this together is quite a task, most especially selecting the repertoire and having to exclude so many friends that I've been fortunate enough to play with over the years. I'm really looking forward to being able to showcase some of originals that seldom see the light of the stage and a few surprise covers thrown in for good measure," he explains.
