Vespa SA launches arresting marketing campaign

Employees of Vespa SA, their advertising agency Guerrilla Marketing and their distribution partners the Flyer Guys were arrested as a result of Vespa SA's new promotional campaign last week.

Their Guerrilla Parking Fine Campaign involved placing fictitious parking fines on legally parked cars in Johannesburg and Cape Town. According to Vespa SA more than 100 000 motorists received parking fines for driving difficult-to-park, gas guzzling motor vehicles, instead of Vespa Scooters.

A plainclothes police officer who received the fine at a shopping centre parking lot in Fairlands, Johannesburg apprehended the six employees. They were taken to the Fairlands Police Station, detained and their 2 000 fines confiscated. A case has been opened against Vespa South Africa.

Vespa SA MD Andy Reid explains that the traffic fine offered recipients a free Vespa-branded helmet and complimentary driving lessons with the purchase of a new Vespa.
