Jackal Berry MTB Challenge 2014
The participants are made up of staff members from the 4PL Group, BMi Research and Six Square Networks. They will be taking on nature's elements when they set off on their mountain bikes from Ubuhle Day Care and Development Centre in Bronkhorstspruit to Jackal Berry farm in Machadodorp, a gruelling 250km off road trail over two days. The first day is a challenging 180km combination of tar and dirt road and some significant hills while day two, the final 70km's, also promises some equally rough terrain.
Last year, an astonishing amount of R140,000 was raised by the riders and their supporters. The funds allowed for the building of a new class room and a new ablution for the school. "We hope to not only change the lives of all the riders but change the lives of the students at Ubuhle by contributing to bettering the centre," said Gareth Pearson CEO BMi Research.
Ubuhle is a grass roots charity that works with orphans and vulnerable children living with frameworks on farm surrounding Bronkhorstspruit. "Our goal is to take hands with small and medium size company management and staff and together build communities one child at a time. We thank all those involved for sharing this vision with us," added Melanie Prinsloo Funding Manager Ubuhle Day Care and Development Centre.
Ubuhle was founded in 2008 by a group of local volunteers, with the aim of helping orphans and vulnerable children in farming communities in the Bronkhorstspruit/Metsweding District. Ubuhle now provides a pre-school facility and an English primary school up to level 3, after-school care, workshops and courses for adults, as well as some aid to develop new income sources of to the 200 rural families living in the rural area.
