Mr Gay SA brings home crown, 2012 world competition

At the 3rd Mr Gay World (MGW) in Manila, South African Francois Nel was announced as the winner, thus for the securing the rights 2012 competition for South Africa. However, not all of South Africa rejoiced. A motion to congratulate him, proposed by the DA, was opposed by the African Christian Democratic Party and the Freedom Front Plus, thus blocking it from going to the floor.

Nel, has a visual multimedia/creative writing degree and worked at a medical practice that dealt with HIV and TB under the direction of Dr Paul Timp. He has completed a course in HIV Care & Counselling. Completing his creative studies, he has a professional career in make up artistry and hair styling, where he has worked both as artist and lecturer/educator.

Being the new MGW, he will receive a US $25 000-worth of trips to visit the five continents where he will be promoting goodwill about the gay community. He will also be wearing a Chris Winspear dog tag designed by the South African jewellery designer.

Competition comes to Johannesburg

At the finale at Club Mwah, Philippines' member of the board, Noemi Alberto, known for being a gay advocate, made the customary turnover to South African's national producer, Coenie Kukkuk, who will be the host producer of Mr Gay World 2012 in Johannesburg in 2012.

President of MGW, Eric Butter said, "We are so excited to take our Big Five (continents) to Africa to experience the 'Rainbow Nation' for our fourth annual competition. The producers of Mr Gay South Africa have produced excellent quality events and we are looking forward to the production and unique African experience they are planning for the international delegation."
