The Cape Chamber of Commerce & Industry, together with Nando's, is hosting a debate on the hottest topic in town: land expropriation without compensation.
Nando's to fire up the Chamber's 'Rumble in the Urban Jungle'

This ‘heavydebate championship’ will be between the leader of Black First Land First - Comrade Andile Mngxitama, and Dawie Roodt - the acclaimed economist of the Efficient Group.

“The land issue and expropriation without compensation have been at the centre of public debate for nearly a year, but most of the discussion has been at a fairly academic level,” says Janine Myburgh, President of the Chamber. “We feel it is now time that we overcome the raw emotions and start to deal with the facts.

“We appreciate that the choice of speakers is somewhat controversial, but we want to cover as full a spectrum as possible, so that we can move from having an opinion to taking a stance.”

A positive business climate requires certainty. The issue of land expropriation without compensation has created anything but certainty. And this event intends to change that. If you have any interest in our economic future, this is one event not to be missed.

“Nando’s believes that the best way to develop policies that’ll benefit the majority of everyday South Africans is to start with measured, constructive dialogue,” says Doug Place, Chief Marketing Officer at Nando’s. “It’s important that we have these healthy, respectful conversations to find sustainable solutions to an important and complex issue. And we can do that with a brand like the Cape Chamber who serve the interests of business as a key stakeholder in the economy.”

The event will be held over a fine dining experience at the Cape Sun on 6 November. Ticket prices are R495 for Chamber members and R695 for non-members. You can book online here or contact the Chamber on 021 402 4300
