Margaret Gardiner message for rooi rose subscribers
For subscribers to rooi rose, the September issue had a surprise with a personal message from cover star Margaret Gardiner printed on the cover. As South Africa's first ever Miss Universe in 1978, she has become and remains a national treasure.
She moved to the US, accompanying her husband, Dr Andre Nel, 24 years ago. These days she calls Los Angeles home, although her heart remains in South Africa. She is a journalist, involved with the Golden Globes and also a regular contributor to the magazine, with exclusive Hollywood celebrity interviews.
"She is a real favourite on our cover, and we wanted to surprise our subscribers with a special message from her as a treat. This is just the first of many changes we are incorporating to make our covers more special and memorable," says editor Martie Pansegrouw. The message from Gardiner is only on subscribers' editions and not on regular on-shelf magazines.
