4EM takes Dubai
Four of SA's most influential wander women made their way to Dubai this week. Just before jetting off, we caught up with them to find out what they cannot travel without, as well as what they will be expecting on this exclusive girls-only trip courtesy of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing South Africa (DTCM SA).
4Elementsmedia media owner Lorinda Voges (@LorindasWorld), alongside three of her clients, singing sensation LeAnne Dlamini (@iamleannemusic), business owner and presenter Shashi Naidoo (@ShashiNaidoo) and Presenter Tumi Voster (@TumiVoster) are currently in Dubai where they will be attending the 5th Season of Fashion Forward where they'll see first hand about the fashion movement that highlights the industry growth for fashion in Dubai.
L to R: Lorinda Voges, LeAnne Dlamini, Shashi Naidoo and Tumi Voster
The foursome will also have an opportunity to explore the best of what Dubai has to offer like high tea at Burj Al Arab, skiing at Ski Dubai, desert safari dinner as well as a live performance by LeAnne at Sensation Club at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dubai.
What is your must have clothing items to pack for a summer vacation?
Lorinda Voges: For sure my chiffon kaftan from The Lot and bikini from Country Road or Woolworths. I also love comfortable shoes like beautiful sandals from River Island or Nikes, especially when I walk a lot and discover new countries.
LeAnne Dlamini: Bikini, Havianas flip-flops and maxi dresses.
Shashi Naidoo: Jewel Adorned sandals, a Kaftan, bikini's and oversized sunglasses.
Tumi Voster: Bikini, sunglasses and sandals
Do you have any tips for managing jet lag?
@LorindasWorld: Do not drink any alcohol before, during and after a long flight! Drink lots of water during your flight and try to get back into a sleeping routine immediately.
@iamleannemusic: Sleep on the plane as much as you can & drink lots of water. That way you're well rested & hydrated once you reach your destination.
@ShashiNaidoo: I once watched a documentary which showed that the biggest aid to preventing jet lag is to not eat on the plane and that you need to eat your first meal once you have landed and that way your system adjusts.
@TumiVoster: Take a hot bubble bath and drink lots of water.
If you could sit next to any celebrity on a plane, who will it be?
@LorindasWorld:Angelina Jolie or Rihanna.
@iamleannemusic: Beyoncé or Jennifer Lopez!!!! Now that would be amazing,lol! I would talk their ears of, or not cause I'd just be too starstruck!
@ShashiNaidoo: I would definitely choose Beyonce and I'd make her sing me to sleep.
@TumiVoster: Beyoncé
What do you love most about travel?
@LorindasWorld:The sense of freedom I have when discovering a new place. I love traveling alone and it always empowers me, I've discovered myself more during my single trips.
@iamleannemusic: Exploring new towns & cities & eating local cuisine is definitely one of my favorite things to do. I love food.
@ShashiNaidoo: I love the escapism of it all and the adventure of trying new things.
@TumiVoster: Learning about different cultures, meeting new people and of course just learning and seeing the fashion in different parts of the world and trying out the food, I'm a lover of food and fashion!!
What are your expectations from this trip to Dubai? Are you excited about anything in particular?
@LorindasWorld:I love traveling through Asia and always wanted to explore Dubai. I love the fact that it's a 1st world country mixed with tradition and culture. Apart from the shopping, I cannot wait for our desert safari dinner and skiing at Ski Dubai.
@iamleannemusic: I'm looking forward to exploring the city, learning about the culture & performing in Dubai once again!
@ShashiNaidoo: Even though there is so much to look forward to during this trip, I am most excited about Fashion Forward because it is the ultimate fashion platform in the Middle East and it showcases some of the most exquisite fashion pieces and it drives the whole fashion industry forward within the region.
@TumiVoster: Expecting nothing but the best. I'm excited to learn more about the culture and heritage. Looking forward to attending the Fashion Forward fashion Dubai extravaganza.
List 2 beauty items you never travel without
@LorindasWorld:My Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Mask and my Clarins BB cream and Lotus Oil.
@iamleannemusic: Clarins Brightening Hydrating Day Lotion and Mitchum roll on. Nothing worse than bad body odor
@ShashiNaidoo: I always keep handy my Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm and Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster - flights are so dehydrating and lips and skin need moisture too.
@TumiVoster: MAC lipsticks and sunscreen
What do you pack to take with on the plane when you travel long distances?
@LorindasWorld:Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Mask, Clarins face wash, Clarins BB cream and hand cream and at least 2 liters of water.
@iamleannemusic: A writing pad & pen. I usually get new song ideas at the strangest times so it's easier if I have that close by. A good book or lots of magazines. I never get time to do any of that at home so it's definitely a way of unwinding for me.
@ShashiNaidoo: I pack a travel pillow, Evian facial spray, a good book, a pen for filling out immigration forms and a coat for if I'm going from summer to winter.
As a woman, are you afraid to travel alone?
@LorindasWorld:Not at all. I have traveled mostly alone. I am a very self-aware traveler and prefer discovering new countries on my own. It gives me a sense of freedom. No wonder my friends call me Wanderluster
@iamleannemusic: Not particularly. As long as I've got all the documentation that I need, make sure my travel arrangements are in order & my credit card, I'm good to go.
@ShashiNaidoo: Not at all. Coming from Johannesburg, it's pretty much a given that it's the most dangerous place i'll go to.
@TumiVoster: Not a fan of traveling alone generally. Definitely want to have someone to share the entire experience with and yes it's definitely safer.
