Spreading warmth this winter

Cape Union Mart's latest CSI (corporate social investment) campaign is encouraging the public to spread a little warmth this winter by donating old jackets at any of the brand's stores. These donations will then be distributed to the needy in those specific regions.

Those participating in the campaign will also receive a 10% discount on any purchase of a new K-Way jacket or fleece top.

“The winter months in South Africa are generally very cold and in some regions also very wet. In an effort to make a difference to those who are less fortunate than ourselves and who can't afford proper warm clothing, we decided to give our customers the opportunity to donate their old jackets at our stores. In turn, Cape Union Mart will distribute these items to various charities and at the same time, will offer caring customers a 10% discount on the purchase of a new jacket,” says Evan Torrance, Cape Union Mart's marketing manager.

He says that the idea came about as the outdoor and leisure goods retailer is heavily involved in a series of CSI initiatives and continuously strives to make a difference to those who are in need. “The Spread the Warmth campaign is just another way for the company to help others.”

The public can participate at all Cape Union Mart stores nationally, excluding those in Namibia and Botswana. Due to the retailer's national presence, various charities in each region will benefit from the campaign.

A specially designed “Spread the Warmth” box is available at every store. Customers are encouraged to approach any of the staff who will assist them (in order to benefit from the 10% discount customers need to show or hand over their old jacket to staff). The campaign will run for the duration of April and May 2009.
