In announcing the 2011 award, Brian Weyers, director of the Shoprite Group, said that the main aim of the award remains to identify exceptional and visionary women who have achieved in their own fields with the determination and foresight to make an impact on the future of many fellow South Africans. There are five categories - Health Care-Givers; Educators; Socio-Economic Business Developers; Good Neighbours Against Crime and Youth Movers.
"Through this award, we want to focus the attention of the people of our country on finding solutions for those critical matters affecting our future. The winners will be awarded with individual prize money but we will also give R100 000 towards the work they do for a better future," Weyers said.
After the campaign, the award culminates in a gala evening in July 2011 at Emperors Palace in Gauteng to announce the winners. This event will be broadcast during prime time on Monday 8 August on M-Net and re-broadcast on Women's Day, 9 August.
