Putting PR behind World Design Capital 2014

At the forthcoming regional AGM of PRISA, the CEO of Cape Town Design, Alayne Reesburg, will address the public relations opportunities around World Design Capital 2014 and the interaction between design and PR.
Putting PR behind World Design Capital 2014

Aloysious Gowne, PRISA Western Cape chair says, "Public relations and design thinking are inextricably linked. PR agencies work with marketing, advertising, graphic agencies to design communication solutions through media, product packaging, social marketing, business innovation, exhibitions and civic education campaigns.

"Design thinking is an innovation methodology, which has a human-centred design ethos. Innovation is powered by deep insights and understanding of human nature, wants, needs, desires, preferences and trends that influence the way products are made, packaged, marketed, sold & supported.

Inspiring a new way

"Good design thinking, like public relations, puts the human element back into the way we approach product solutions, business processes and social innovation to ensure sustainability. World Design Capital 2014 is also a PR initiative to unearth the unique way in which this city approaches design to inspire a new way of dealing with global design challenges and solutions."

Cape Town will host six milestone events on behalf of the International Council of Societies of
Industrial Design (ICSID), as part of a year-long programme of activities that showcases the best of African design through products, experiences, routes, events, places and workshops across the country.

"While WDC CT 2014 takes place in Cape Town, the city is hosting the initiative on behalf of Africa and PRISA is delighted to be a part of enriching the value of design thinking with and from our associate PR bodies in Africa, via APRA," concludes Gowne.

The event will be held at the Cape Town City Hall on Tuesday, 28 May 2013 at 6pm. A limited number of representatives of Cape Town's business, NGO and youth sectors are invited to attend the PRISA AGM. While no fee is charged, seats must be reserved in writing by email to az.oc.asirp@ewidnil.
