Sandwich Baron Soweto - a new profit frontier
To participate, all entrants underwent various stages of review, where they had to present not only financial records and background information, but also a comprehensive business plan on how they intended to manage the store to ensure its success. Even though she did not win, Gloria Mautloa was the first to be recommended for a new store partnership when the opportunity was presented.
"The franchise has such a unique offering. From its online ordering to free delivery and fair pricing, the concept offers customers greater choice than many other lunchtime food stores. The meals on offer are also a healthier option and because they are always freshly produced on site, they are of a high quality," she says.
Founder of Sandwich Baron, Sally J'Arlette-Joy shares that Mautloa made a great impression on the company and was the first person who came to mind when one of her existing franchisees enquired about a suitable partner for an expansion project within the group.
Existing storeowner, Trevor Mashabane, entered into arrangements with J'Arlette-Joy to be the master franchise licence holder for the township areas. After introducing Mautloa and Mashabane, the business partnership was established and the duo have now taken the brand to the streets of Soweto, which has presented itself as a fresh frontier with a high potential for profitability.
Mashabane, who has the majority share in the new store, adds that he looks forward to embarking on the journey with Mautloa. "Our township expansion plans are not only aimed at serving the locals something fresh, new and healthy, but also offering entrepreneurs in these communities the opportunity to embark on ventures of their own. Aside from welcoming new customers into the store, our vision is to create jobs for the people who live in these areas."
On the opportunity afforded to her, Mautloa expressed that she is grateful to be involved in the brand's legacy and to assist in taking this brand into unexplored territories. "Our arrival has been met with great support thus far and we look forward to creating many memorable experiences for our new customers in future," she concludes.
