Young South African director takes top honours at World Short Film Festival

The film Under the Rainbow written and directed by Dean Blumberg has WON the Fiction award at SHORT ENDS WORLD FILM SCHOOLS FESTIVAL in London.

The Short Ends festival is a showcase of the best international film student work. Over 50 film schools throughout the world submitted films for consideration including prestigious films schools such as the American Film Institute (AFI), Boston University, New York Film Academy, University of South California (USC) and the London Film School.

"For it's brutal honesty and stylised camera work, which add to, rather than detracts from, the intensity and reality of the piece" - Judicators Short Ends Film Festival

Another film, "Black Sushi" again written and directed by Dean Blumberg has recently WON the Apollo film Festival for best student film. Black Sushi was selected for International Blue Fire: The Black and Asian Programme in Manchester.

UNDER THE RAINBOW and BLACK SUSHI, have been selected for the 7th INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF FILM SCHOOLS in Mexico City (5 - 12 of November). Both films have been selected for the Africa in the Picture Festival (3 - 14 September) and the Commonwealth International Film Festival (Manchester) held earlier this year.

Black Sushi will be screened at the 2003 Sithengi Cape Town World Cinema Festival as part of a compilation of South African Shorts

Dean Blumberg is currently working at Fresh Water Films understudying some the leading South African Commercial directors in his growth towards becoming a professional director. He is also currently awaiting on the Sundance Screenwriters Lab with response to his first feature film script.
