Annual bank conference to discuss high food prices
South Africa will for the first time host the three-day ABCDE on 9 June in Cape Town.
The conference, themed “People, Politics and Globalisation” is expected to bring together more than 500 participants worldwide.
Other issues on the agenda include investment and growth, human development, and the role of China in financing Africa's development.
Main sessions will be viewed through the lenses of South Asia, Africa and the opportunities and risks of globalisation.
ABCDE is an annual World Bank event being hosted this year by the Ministry of Finance of in South Africa.
High level and plenary speakers include Finance Minister Trevor Manual, Commission on Growth Michael Spence, Nobel Laureate, Justin Lin, Chief Economist, the World Bank, Bossma Kodani, Executive Director, Arab Reform Initiative and Sunil Munjal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hero Cycles Limited and Hero Corporate Service, Limited, India.
On 10 June, there will be a press conference to launch Global Development Finance (GDF) 2008: The role of international banking.
GDF analyses economic prospects and capital flows to developing countries and assesses the impact of high food and energy prices.
