Petrol price to rise by 6 cents

Motorists are expected to pay 6 cents more for a litre of petrol as of next week, the Energy Ministry announced on Friday, 28 February 2010.

The retail price of all grades of petrol will go up on Wednesday, 3 March, in addition to an earlier increase of 18 cents.

In the Gauteng, a litre of 95 unleaded petrol (ULP) will cost R8.10 and R7.87 on the coast.

The prices of Diesel 0.05% Sulphur wholesale and Diesel 0.005 will rise by 4 cents.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 2 cents and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will increase by 2 cents as well.

For the period under review the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased.

“The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 29 January 2010 to 25 February 2010 was 7.6902 compared to 7.4735 during the previous period,” said the Ministry.
