Bringing the Women's World Cup of Golf to the world
The media centre for the Women's World Cup of Golf catered for about 170 global media bringing news of the world's leading women's golfers to their home countries. It was a state of the art operation and one which we would hope to see at many more events for the media.
With 22 Acer TravelMate 4050 laptops set up in the media centre connected via Sentech's MyWireless product offering, the media had immediate access to the internet and email at no cost. With four TVs around the centre showing the action on the golf course, the real-time scoring system updated on the website, as well as the official Nomads manual scoring system up at the front of the room, journalists had everything they needed to keep the world up to date with developments on the golf course.
Those journalists who brought their own laptops were offered the option of using a MyWireless modem, which was installed and set up by the Sentech on-site support team to allow for the quick and seamless use of the technology.
Acer, Internet Solutions and Sentech effectively collaborated to supply all the equipment, connectivity and system design for the scoring system, media centre and Internet cafés which were situated in the club house and hospitality suite.
"Technology has become all pervasive with high level systems needed to empower the media, keep the world up to date on happenings and keep the visitors to the Women's World Cup of Golf (for example) connected to things back home," said David Drummond, Acer South Africa's country manager.
"It is no longer the laptop, tablet PC, or connectivity detail that is important, but rather the use of the technology, how the solution is built and how it empowers people," concludes Drummond.
