Sunday Times launches Pay as you use Internet access in South Africa
The service includes a free e-mail address and 12Mb of storage space for your messages.
This is perfect for people who don't spend hours online but who use the Internet mainly for e-mail. Go online, download your mail, work offline, reconnect and send. If that's all you do, why pay a monthly fee? Some months you might not go online at all. Businessmen who travel will enjoy the single dial-in number which you can use from anywhere in South Africa.
To take advantage of this service all you need is a computer, a modem and a Telkom land line, and you must be a South African citizen, living in South Africa.
Every time you use the Internet or download your e-mail, you'll be charged a flat rate of R1.78 a minute (inclusive of VAT). If you go online after hours or over the weekend, you'll still be charged the same rate. If there are other connection fees - such as hotel surcharges - these will be added to the R1.78. When you get your Telkom account, it will include the cost of the time you spent online.
