Data Journalism Awards launched

Google is sponsoring the Data Journalism Awards (DJA), described as the first international contest recognising outstanding work in the field of data journalism worldwide. The DJA is organised by the Global Editors Network and run by the European Journalism Centre.

A jury of data journalism experts and editors from all over the world, including organisations such as New York Times, Reuters and Les Echos will award a total of €45,000 to six winners. Paul Steiger, founder of ProPublica will head the jury.

Categories

There are three award categories awarded at national and international level and local and regional level to give six prizes. The three categories are:

  1. Data-driven investigative journalism
  2. Data visualisation and storytelling
  3. Data-driven applications

The competition is open to media companies, non-profit organisations, freelancers and individuals. Applicants must submit work before 10 April 2012 at www.datajournalismawards.org/submit-your-work/
