Green Point Stadium introduces 2010 lecture series

Andrew Fanton, project director of the Green Point Stadium 2010 project, kicks off the 2010 Lecture Series at the Green Point Stadium Visitor Centre this evening, Thursday, 17 July 2008, 5.30pm for 6pm.

“We will host these talks twice a month,” says Silvana Dantu, director of the Visitor Centre who, together with her team, conceptualised the lecture series.

“Each talk will include a guided tour of the stadium construction site so that guests have a total experience of our spectacular 2010 stadium. All the lectures will be by equally interesting and passionate experts who are integrally involved in the planning and implementation of national projects towards 2010. Their views are of special interest to the public.”

Fanton will speak to “Project Managing a 2010 Legacy”, addressing the many aspects of being ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of Cape Town's 2010 World Cup Stadium - a mammoth project on which the world's eyes are turned.

He will also speak about the legacy the Murray & Roberts/WBHO Joint Venture plans to leave for the construction industry, post-2010.

The first lecture in August will be by the lead architect of the 2010 Green Point Stadium Project, GMP Architekten Germany. Project manager Robert Hormes will present an informative and accessible lecture on the design, construction and future use of the 2010 stadium, as well as some background information on GMP's work globally.

Tickets to the lectures are R100; seats are limited. For reservations, call Lana on +27 (0)21 430 0418 or email . The Visitor Centre offers daily tours at 10am, 12 noon and 2pm.
