Trunk full of ideas at new craft show

The first Ideas Magazine Trunk Show will be held on 13-14 July 2013 at Simondium Country Lodge, Paarl-Franschhoek Road, Western Cape, where 20 exhibitors will showcase handmade items, including bespoke home décor and accessories, unique crafted items and originally designed wares.

It will coincide with the Franschhoek's Bastille Festival.

"Whether you love to create or are just inspired by the extraordinary craft of others, the show is a unique browse-and-buy experience that personally introduces these creations to an audience ever on the hunt for handmade and niche products," says magazine editor, Terena le Roux.

Many of the vendors' work has been featured in the magazine and will be showcased at the show in the space created by the Ideas magazine team.

"For a make-it-yourself magazine, it is a natural extension to bring our handmade content to life and to create an experience for readers to feel like they're walking through our pages," says le Roux.

Vintage pieces available

The magazine's stall will be a show highlight, filled with one-of-a-kind works for sale, which were created specifically for past magazine issues. Visitors will have the chance to purchase unique pieces such as a vintage chair with its embroidery finish or an art-covered ottoman.

"One of the biggest global trends at the moment is the 'handmade movement', reflecting people's need for personalisation in a world of mass-produced products. The more digital and uniform our world becomes, the bigger the need for handmade and niche items, which give people a true opportunity to express their individuality and personality.

"People are learning to value tangible, tactile objects again. Where craft was once seen as old fashioned, there has been a shift to authentic, one-off products and the growing amount of successful craft markets and on-line craft shops and marketplaces show that there is a market for modern, well-crafted products."

Tickets cost R30 and can be purchased at the door or directly from Taheera Abrahams on email moc.42aidem@smaharbA.areehaT or tel +27 (0) 21 408 3837. For more information, go to www.ideasmag.co.za.
