Ogilvy Africa launches awards to promote African advertising

Ogilvy Africa has launched annual creative awards to recognise the crucial role played by locally relevant creativity in producing effective advertising in Africa. "This is of great importance to the network as it provides clients with proof of the agency's ability to deliver on our promise to produce locally relevant advertising for international brands," says Ogilvy Africa managing director John Little.

"We take the role of creativity extremely seriously and continuously strive to produce locally appropriate, quality advertising which works effectively across a pan African context. The introduction of the Ogilvy Africa Creative Awards will be used to encourage and recognise the breadth and depth of creative talent within the network," Little continues.

The inaugural awards were presented recently by Ogilvy Africa chairman, Robyn Putter, at the network's annual conference in Mozambique earlier this year. Altogether 16 campaigns were honoured and the awards were shared between Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia and Reunion.

"Although few in number, the countries that were awarded were as diverse as the they were promising, being awarded for broad categories of products such as tea, wall paint, cellular telephony, alcoholic beverages and even sport," says Little.
