New D&AD deputy president appointed

Simon 'Sanky' Sankaraya, founding partner at design consultancy AllofUs, has been elected deputy president, as Paul Brazier, executive creative director at AMV.BBDO took over as D&AD president on Tuesday, 15 September 2009, following his election by the executive committee.

After studying information design at Nottingham, Sanky joined Digit at its inception as an art director. He worked on projects for Nike, Motorola, Stella McCartney and The Design Museum amongst others.

Sankaraya is a well-known speaker on the international conference scene being involved with IDN Fresh Conferences in Sydney and Singapore, Flash Forward Amsterdam, Design Yatra in Goa and speaking alongside Sir Terrance Conran at Design Indaba in South Africa.

He has taught at the London College of Communication (LCC), Hyper Island in Sweden, St Martins School of Design and Space Invaders in Copenhagen and judged awards for the Canadian Art Directors Club, the Construction Awards in South Africa, Design Week Awards and D&AD Awards.

He is currently researching a novel.

AllofUs, founded in 2002, focuses on how technology can be used alongside more traditional practices such as interior design, architecture, exhibition design and identity as well as working on internet-based projects and application design. It currently works with BBC, Coco-de-mer, Land Securities, Natural History Museum, NHS, Nokia, Tate Britain and Sky.

D&AD is a British not-for-profit organisation that represents the international design, advertising and creative communities. Its inaugural awards ceremony was held in 1963.
