Master classes on MAC SA Sector Code
The Association for Communication and Advertising (ACA) is offering two-day masterclasses in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town during August and September 2016, to drive transformation and compliance to the new MAC SA Sector Code. Julia Nzimande, former deputy director creative industries at the dti, will present the masterclasses.
The MAC SA Sector Code has been gazetted under the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Amendment Act as amended by the B-BBEE Amendment Act of 2013. As a B-BBEE Sector Code, the effect of the MAC Sector Code is that it:
- is legally binding effective 6 May 2016;
- was developed and agreed upon by major stakeholders in the sector; and
- is fully binding between and among businesses operating in the industry irrespective of ACA membership.
The ACA, as a signatory of the MAC SA Sector Code, is determined to ensure that all member agencies reach compliance immediately.
It is against this backdrop that the ACA is offering two-day masterclasses that are intended to deliver in-depth knowledge of each element of the Sector Code, answer frequently asked questions and provide companies with the information needed to reach compliance, when audited against the MAC SA Sector Code. ACA members may send a maximum of two delegates to each of the sessions free of charge. IAB and PRISA members enjoy discounted prices to attend the masterclasses.
“As signatories of the Charter, transformation is very important to the ACA. We are committed to assisting our member agencies and the sector at large to transform. These masterclasses will provide companies operating in the sector with all the information needed to put in place transformation strategies and ultimately compliance against the MAC SA Sector Code,” says Odette van der Haar, CEO of the ACA.
Project Vuselela
The masterclasses form part of Project ‘Vuselela’, which is a transformation initiative of the ACA.
“The word Vuselela in isiZulu means rebirth, to revive or to renew. We chose it because it very appropriately describes where the sector is now. Much has already been done to effect transformation however; there is still much work to be done to ensure compliance to the MAC SA Sector Code. We hope that the masterclasses will provide clarity on the various elements of the Sector Code and inspire a renewed approach to the implementation of transformation in companies operating in the sector,” concludes van der Haar.
