E-commerce Awards takes centre stageThis week, Truworths is in the spotlight, having announced plans to buy the UK's Office Retail Group, making it the latest South African retailer to pursue offshore expansion, and its first foray into the European market. At the 10th annual E-commerce Awards, held on Wednesday evening, Yuppiechef and Takealot stole the show with two wins each. Yuppiechef.com was acclaimed as South Africa's best e-commerce store, with the best shopping process, and Takealot as South Africa's favourite e-commerce website, with the best e-commerce mobile site. Contributors Michael Wood and Sane Mdlalose suggest four barriers facing small manufacturers in the retail industry, and Clive Evans offers his opinion on retention marketing and creating sticky customers, using Pick n Pay's Smart Shopper and recent Stikeez promotion as a case in point.
