STADIO Higher Education is looking for a Lecturer for School of Law

Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Law Lecturer position is to deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment in the discipline of law, ensuring that students acquire the knowledge, practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and ethical foundations required for academic success and professional practice. The incumbent is responsible for contributing to student achievement through effective curriculum delivery, academic support, assessment, research activities, and continuous programme improvement.

Key responsibilities:

• Lecturing (with specific focus on Private Law and/or Mercantile Law) and associated responsibilities
• Plan, prepare for and deliver lectures in-venue and online
• Engage with and provide feedback to coordinating lecturers and programme coordinators to improve teaching and learning
• Participate in programme review initiatives providing feedback in respect of specific module/programme design and content
• Assess student work and provide feedback to students
• Conduct post-moderation of student work
• Student support, including consultation with students and management of students at risk
• Scholarship of teaching and learning and professional development
• Administration and campus community participation
• Participation in community engagement initiatives, programme, school and campus meetings and activities

Skills and competencies

• Expertise in the relevant field of private law and/or mercantile law
• Relevant teaching experience in higher education
• Good knowledge of canvas as an online learning management system/tool
• Good knowledge of legal databases such as JutaStat, LexisNexis, Sabinet
• A research track record
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Presentation and facilitation skills
• Computer literacy and e-learning skills
• Planning and organising skills
• Knowledge and skills in the relevant field
• Willingness to participate in academic scholarship, including subject matter research and teaching and learning research
• Willingness to expand knowledge in various fields of law and to teach in more than one field of law
• Willingness to work after hours
• Willingness to work across different modes of teaching and learning

Qualifications and experience

• At least a South African LLM degree in the relevant field (or a closely related field). An LLD (or registration for LLD) will be advantageous.
