Launching in South Africa this week, the range combines the surprise of mystery capsules with a working miniature record player, positioning the product at the intersection of toys, music memorabilia and lifestyle collectables.
Developed over more than two years, Mini Brands Vinyl marks Zuru’s first major move into licensed music collectables. The launch also reflects how collectable products are increasingly designed to appeal to both children and adults, with nostalgia and the experience of unboxing forming part of the value proposition.

Each capsule contains four mystery miniature vinyl records and surprise accessories, with 45 tracks available across the collection. Artists represented include The Beach Boys, Sting, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, the Jackson 5 and Neil Diamond.
Unlike decorative miniature replicas, the records spin and play audio clips through a rechargeable miniature record player with a built-in speaker.
For Zuru, the launch builds on the popularity of blind-box collectables, in which consumers purchase products without knowing exactly which items they will receive.
Sabina Hujdurovic, marketing manager for APAC, the Middle East and Africa at Zuru, said miniature collectables were benefiting from social media unboxing trends and growing demand from adult consumers buying products for themselves.

“Collectables once aimed primarily at children now sit comfortably within fashion, music fandom and adult collector communities,” she said.
The vinyl format offers a natural extension of that trend, combining the appeal of music nostalgia with a physical product that can be displayed, collected and shared.
Hujdurovic said vinyl had also become part of lifestyle and interior design culture, with records and players serving as both music formats and decorative objects.
The Mini Brands Vinyl range translates that aesthetic into a smaller, more accessible collectable, while adding an interactive element through its working player.
The range incorporates several features designed to encourage repeat engagement. Alongside the mystery records, collectors can look for rare gold vinyl records and miniature music award trophies. Each pack also includes a miniature record crate and a keychain attachment.
The combination of mystery items, rarity and functionality builds on the mechanics behind Zuru’s existing Mini Brands range, while introducing licensed music as a new category.
“What makes this range different is that we’re not just creating miniature replicas; we’re recreating the experience of collecting and playing music in a format that feels nostalgic, interactive and highly collectable,” Hujdurovic said.
The product’s launch ahead of the festive gifting season also places it within a market where toys increasingly compete with lifestyle products and gifts for older consumers.
Mini Brands Vinyl is available exclusively through Toy Kingdom in South Africa.
The miniature record player set has a recommended retail price of R499, while individual collectable capsules cost R199 and contain four records and an accessory.
For Zuru, the launch represents an expansion beyond conventional toy formats into a category built around music fandom and experiential collecting.
As brands seek to create products that offer more than display value, Mini Brands Vinyl combines licensed content, surprise-led purchasing and working functionality in a compact format aimed at both younger collectors and adults drawn to the renewed appeal of physical music.
