Who made the cut? LFP reveals Top 30 competing for R50,000

This year's Local Fashion Police (LFP) competition's Top 30 finalists have been selected and will now compete for an opportunity to win bespoke designer outfits valued at R50 000, created by some of South Africa’s leading couturiers. These will be showcased at the grand finale of the Local Fashion Police.

The selected participants will have the opportunity to receive outfits created by South African designers Mpumelelo “Lele” Dhlamini of Ezokhetho, Thabo Makhetha-Kwinana of Thabo Makhetha, Anel Botha and Rivaldo Louw of By Waldo. Each adjudicator will select finalists and design an outfit for the recipients to wear at the event.

From online campaign to fashion platform

Local Fashion Police began as a social media campaign and has developed into a platform celebrating South African fashion, design and creativity. This year’s finale will reflect on that evolution, bringing together designers, fashion enthusiasts and industry representatives.

Former judges and fashion figures who have contributed to the programme’s development have also been invited to attend and showcase their work at the finale.

Proudly South African CEO Eustace Mashimbye says the number and standard of entries reflect the depth of creative talent in the country’s fashion industry. He adds that selecting 30 finalists from the submissions was a difficult task.

Putting local fashion in the spotlight

The grand finale will bring the finalists and participating designers together to showcase South African creativity and craftsmanship. The competition also provides a platform for local fashion to reach audiences beyond social media, connecting designers with fashion enthusiasts and industry stakeholders.

For the local fashion sector, initiatives that raise the visibility of homegrown talent can help create opportunities for designers to reach new audiences and strengthen the profile of South African design.

Further details about the grand finale have not been provided in the announcement.
