Twyg award-winner Klein Muis explores Coloured identity in debut collection

Twyg Sustainable Award-winning designer and artist Klein Muis, also known as Aidan Peters, has unveiled the brand’s debut collection. Titled Jirre Hoe Lank Nog? (which translates to Lord, How Much Longer? in Afrikaans), the collection examines conflict, memory, and culture through the lens of Coloured identity in South Africa.

The collection introduces the colourful, abstract world of Klein Muis, shaped by the designer’s cultural background and interests.

A personal language

The brand says it reflects on its history and the designer’s identity as a first-generation born-free Coloured South African, blending reinvention, cultural signifiers, and football identity into a personal language.

“The collection holds a layered identity. In its purest form, it is a piecing together; an understanding of all the parts that make Klein Muis what it is,” says Klein Muis, founder and creative director.

“The world it operates in is free, fluid, draped and colourful. The woman is meant to feel raw, honest and reflective in how they wear and what they wear from this collection.”

‘Cause it’s iconic

The pieces reference South African icons like the Jabulani football, the official match ball for the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, which forms the pattern for a wrap-around dress, and an ANC Nelson Mandela campaign flag, reworked as a commemorative draped dress.

“Each reference carries its own weight, but together they form a single, layered identity. One that does not ask to be resolved into a clean narrative,” says the designer.

According to Klein Muis, the pieces treat contradiction as a starting point rather than a problem to solve, trusting the wearer to move through it the same way the designer has: piece by piece, memory by memory, toward something that feels lived-in.

If you’re curious and eager to check it out, the Klein Muis Jirre Hoe Lank Nog collection will be available from 23 October 2026 online at www.kleinmuis.com and at select stockists.
