Flavour of the week Grand Parade Investments, which brought Burger King to South Africa in 2013, has signed a franchise agreement with Dunkin' Brands to open as many as 250 Dunkin' Donuts and 70 Baskin-Robbins (ice cream specialty) stores in SA. Relevantly, Marthinus van Loggerenberg explains how to craft a viable brand communication strategy in the African context. In short, "just get in, keep your wits about you and do your research without any assumptions". Leigh Andrews chats to Paolo Fra, business and brand manager for Bentley South Africa, on the concept of co-branding or 'partnership marketing' with regard to how luxury brands are reinventing the typical 'free gift with purchase' sales incentive, and how this offers an extended shopping experience that results in brand loyalty. Furthermore, Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel has set tough terms for a bottling merger to keep Appletiser SA-made.
