Find your perfect job.

Indeed, third time lucky!

So The New Age finally launched this morning, Monday, 6 December 2010, and online chatter and media stories have ranged from comments about editor Henry Jeffreys' welcome column (and its emphasis on editorial independence and media freedom) and its typography to who's going to buy a copy and where to buy an actual copy.

For those of us online, we can always access the e-edition but somehow it's not the same as paper and ink.

Bizcommunity.com wishes the new kid on the block all the best, especially since it's silly season and, contrary to what I wrote last week, news has indeed started slowing down (I think last year was different because it was the build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup).

By the way, five daily newsletters and one weekly left until year-end after this one goes out! Last newsletters here at Bizcommunity are on Monday, 13 December 2010.

Have a laid-back week

Mixed reaction to ruling in Terre'blanche trial
While both the South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) and Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) have welcomed the ruling by Judge Joseph Raulinga of the North Gauteng High Court to allow a limited number of journalists to witness the proceedings in the Eugene Terre'blanche murder trial in Ventersdorp, the MMA disagrees with the inclusion of family members and the public. From the start, it was all about You. And Huisgenoot.
[Stephen Grootes: @StephenGrootes] This year, various ANC politicians have accused the media, and journalists generally, of being skiving gits. Of being people with no moral code, who'll do anything for a story. Of being people who think they are above the law, who don't care about ruining other people's lives. Unfortunately, a court judgment is now going to give them plenty of ammunition. And worse, the court judgment, from what we can see, is absolutely correct. Read more >>

While ICANN creates a garage, creative agencies should create showrooms
[Naseem Javed] ICANN, rightfully from its inception, is a very superior technical organisation, surrounded by teams of highly intelligent people working on the long-term integrity of the Internet. Like a real high-tech garage full of engineers and mechanics designing high speed luxury cars, they are rolling out the great new gTLD programmes, but what the image brokers and ad agencies now need are not garages but rather showrooms. Online influencer power: what it means for brands
[Joanne Reidy] Who in their right mind would travel to the seediest part of town, at night, park next to a strip club, and endure a 10-minute walk desperately clutching at personal valuables, all just to eat something as mad as sea urchin pasta? You would - if someone you trusted sang the praises of the best Italian restaurant they knew, detailing the fabulous food, comfortable atmosphere and terrific staff. Read more >>
