The talented Mr Brady does it all THEATRE [Ilva Pieterse] Entertainer Wayne Brady has returned to South Africa to once again share his 'Making it Up' improvisation show with South African audiences. Meeting with him shortly after his arrival early this week was an extraordinarily inspirational experience for me. Here is what he had to say. Flying the Black Flag THEATRE [Patricia Pieterse] The three terms I would use to describe Henry Rollins' sense of humour would be political, sometimes self-deprecating and eloquent. The former Black Flag vocalist performed his show, Frequent Flyer, in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town recently. This was his second trip to SA, but his first time in Pretoria. From Parow to Paarl - It's Jack Parow! MUSIC [Natalie Jardine] I'm obsessed with music from Byellville, but the 'burbs ain't exactly my favourite hanging spot, especially on a school night. So it took a whole lot to get me to mission to Willowbridge (Oooo! A step up from Tyger Valley!) and the Barnyard Theatre, of all places. But, as the event was the official launch of Jack Parow's first full-length album, I had to make the exception. Trust me, it was sooo worth it. Spandau Ballet and Alphaville, greatest of the 80s? MUSIC [Alan Hughes] I recently had the opportunity to go to see Spandau Ballet and Alphaville at the Grand West Arena. When I arrived, DJs from Heart 104.9 FM were playing great hits from the 1980s and warming up the crowd with humourous banter. They hailed these two bands as being the greatest of the 80s, which seemed a little over the top. Maybe they are the best bands of the 80s who are still making music - and who are prepared to include South Africa in their tour?
