Durban International Film Festival opens this week

The 33rd Durban International Film Festival begins screenings at Ster-Kinekor Theatres, Musgrave and Cinema Nouveau, Gateway from Thursday 19 July 2012.
Durban International Film Festival opens this week

Putting Africa in the spotlight are films such as Elelwani by Ntshavheni wa Luruli, starring Florence Masebe, which will be opening the festival as well as the story of animal kingdom ubuntu in the pioneering 3D animation, Adventures in Zambezia, which will close the festival.

European films include Le Havre by Aki Kaurusmäki and Michael Glawogger's Whore's Glory from Austria. There will be a focus on French film, such as the biopic on Burmese leader Aung San Sui Kyi, The Lady. Eco-issues will be explored in films such as Bitter Seeds and LoveMEATender. Each theme highlights filmmakers' talents and passion in comedies, documentaries, drama and storytelling.

Top picks include Searching for Sugarman - The Rodriguez Story and Beasts of the Southern Wild directed by Benh Zeitlin, which are exclusive to Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau. To Rome with Love - releasing 24 August 2012 at Cinema Nouveau nationwide, 2 Days in New York, Rebel Sessions and Surfing and Sharks with many more films and documentaries to entertain and educate.
