And the Safta nominees are...

The South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) has announced its (very, very) long list of nominees, so buckle up, because here they are.

Unsurprisingly taking the lead in the feature film category is Inxeba (The Wound), with eight nominations including Best Feature. The film was South Africa’s submission to this year’s Academy Awards but failed to pick up a nomination.

Behind Inxeba is Kalushi, with seven nominations. In a weird twist, Vaya — which scored six nods — was not nominated for Best Feature, while Beyond the River — nominated for only four — was.

Things are equally confusing over in TV. Tjovitjo leads the TV Drama charge with seven nominations, but its fellow Best TV Drama nominees, Harvest and Die Boland Moorde, only have two each.

This, despite three other shows picking up four nominations each (Die Boekklub, Lockdown, and Hard Copy), and two more shows with three nods (iNumber Number and Is’thunzi).

Hotel, nominated for Best TV Comedyracked up eight nominations. Puppet Nation ZA pulled in seven, and fellow nominee SuzelleDIY only four.

You may notice a few absentees from the TV Soap category: Generations: The Legacy and Muvhango both snubbed the Saftas again for refusing to recognise their shows. Instead, 7de LaanIsibaya, and Suidooster are all up for the main award.

Here’s the full list:
