New editor for Daily Sun

Themba Khumalo (37) has been appointed editor of the Daily Sun tabloid with immediate effect. The decision was ratified at a board meeting last week of Media 24, major shareholder in the nation's biggest-selling daily newspaper.

Khumalo has been in charge of news gathering operations at Daily Sun since September last year.

Born in Soweto and educated in Swaziland, Khumalo has been a journalist for 15 years. ''Daily Sun is the greatest adventure of my life... I am looking forward to driving the machine ever harder... and to the increasing benefit of the millions of SunReaders,'' Khumalo said.

Deon du Plessis, publisher of Daily Sun and Media 24's partner in ownership, said: ''By any yardstick Themba is the best guy for the job - I wish him very well indeed.''
