Southern Sun scores at Empowerment Awards
The Metropolitan Oliver Empowerment Awards, one of South Africa's top Black Economic Empowerment awards initiative, were announced on 24 March 2011. Entrants, which increased by 25% this year, had to provide their status with regards to the seven pillars of empowerment as per the B-BBEE scorecard and their financial performance based on turnover, growth, profitability and productivity. Southern Sun was named the 2011 top empowered company in the travel, leisure and entertainment category.
Following the company's latest rating in December 2010, the hotel chain has maintained its Level 3 contributor status and 110% empowerment recognition in accordance with the dti's Codes of Good Practice on BBBEE, equivalent to an AA Empowerdex Rating. With the latest rating, representing the first time that we have been audited against the tourism scorecard (gazetted in May 2009), our consistently good results and now receiving this award, are testament to our commitment and dedication to empowerment in South Africa," says Graham Wood, MD Southern Sun Hotels.
