Low-income winners score in 2010 competition

To date, 5000 tickets have been won through FNB's 2010 FIFA World Cup Customer Ticket Competition, which kicked-off in November 2007. Of the total, fully 40% of the winners fall into the mass, lower income segment of the population. The 2504 winners comprising the 40% qualified by holding at least one of the bank's qualifying products.

“This is very encouraging as all South Africans have played an important part in the build-up to the tournament, especially in infrastructure development, and these tickets will give them an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labour,” says Jeff McDonald, the bank's head of product and marketing.

Winner draws will be conducted every quarter until April 2010 and a grand total of 12 000 tickets will be won.

Thousands more tickets to be won

“There are still 7 000 more tickets up for grabs before the start of the tournament, and we have noted that the ticket competition has gone beyond being about the rush to get tickets. The competition has encouraged individuals who were never banked previously to start healthy financial practices, particularly crucial in the current economic downturn,” McDonald adds.

To qualify for the remaining draws, the bank's customers need to hold at least one of its range of qualifying products, including deposit, loan, credit, transactional, investment, and home loans products, as well as FNB eBucks membership.

In addition, between now and April 2010, every four transactions, be they cash withdrawals at one of the bank's ATM, or point-of-sale transactions using the bank's Visa Credit Card or Visa Electron Card, will increase participants' chances of winning.
