South Africa switches on 2011 Rugby World Cup
From the opening ceremony of the 2011 Rugby World Cup to 24 September 2011, SABC2, the home channel for the tournament, has delivered an average audience of 1 057 120 per live game while SABC1 has delivered 686 325 viewers for the game it carried.
The SABC believes that this is due to its programming of country and player profiles, in-studio expert analysis (from high-profile analysts in the game), to educating viewers and listeners alike on the rules of the game. It states it has taken the lead, in terms of market share, in reaching the public, mirroring the trend that transpired during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup tournaments.
