SuperSport builds up to the World Cup

SuperSport, is set to broadcast a Soccer World Cup 2002 build-up programme, after the channel came to the rescue of e.tv and secured coverage of the tournament which starts at the end of May.

"The World Cup will now be available to our viewers live and in digital quality," says SuperSport CEO, Heinrich Enslin. "Matches will be broadcast on SuperSport 2 and SuperSport 3 on DStv, with most of the matches being shown in the morning due to the time difference. Repeats of the best game of the day will be screened during evening prime time and highlights, as well as an update programme, will be broadcast every evening during prime time for the duration of the tournament."

Oracle Airtime Sales', Chris Hitchings, adds that the acquisition has opened up new advertising opportunities. "We have created cost-effective packages for advertisers wanting to associate their brand with the World Cup. For example, our highlights packages (R 75 000) is more than 50 per cent off the rate card and a package of 90 spots for the duration of the tournament (R 150 000) is 58 per cent off the rate card."
