Mountain bike race goes live on SuperSport

The mountain bike race, Absa Cape Epic presented by adidas, will broadcast live shows on the first and last day on SuperSport to the African continent and plans are already underway to do so worldwide in 2012. The race has also secured Telkom Business as partner.

"The race has increased dramatically in size over the last few years, as have its media requirements and to have this partner allows us to service all the journalists, both at the event and at their various offices worldwide," says Kevin Vermaak, founder and director of the race.

"We believe the live broadcasts will make the race accessible to all those interested in following the race. We will be working with a top production team with experience in international live golf broadcasts.

"Our event has grown in popularity and is increasingly becoming an iconic endurance event. The International Cycling Union's (UCI) president, Pat McQuaid, deems the race's promotion of cycling on a continental level as a vital part of its strategy to globalise the sport and we are confident that the move to broadcast live will further aid the strategy," he concludes.
