Sars' Nugent inquiry interview goes viral

NEWSWATCH: Sars' chief of digital and IT, Mmamathe Makhekhe-Mokhuane's interview with Sakina Kamwendo regarding the Nugent inquiry into the tax collector's IT and e-filing infrastructure, on the SABC's Morning Live yesterday, has gone viral.

It's been exposed that the institution's digital infrastructure is on the verge of collapse, and so the inquiry seeks to gain clarity and understand as to why suspended commissioner Tom Moyane halted a proposed modernisation programme four years ago.

Seemingly confused by the reason for the interview, and unable - even refusing - to answer some basic questions put to her, Makhekhe-Mokhuane instead made some “bizarre” and “hilarious” comments that have got people talking and rather concerned.

The City Press lists five responses that left those at the commission perplexed, the irony being when “Makhekhe-Mokhuane concluded her testimony by saying she experienced resistance in her division as it took a long time to convince her colleagues that she knew what she was talking about”.
