Orange Horizons opens stores in SA and Portugal
In January 2013, Orange launched a subsidiary called Orange Horizons, which looks for new business opportunities and provides a new means of support for customers travelling abroad in countries where the group is not already present as a mass-market telecoms operator. Six months later, Orange Horizons is present in seven countries, including South Africa.
In addition to the launch of local websites and e-commerce activities, Orange Horizons recently moved to a new stage of its development by opening physical stores with local partners in both South Africa and Portugal.
In June, Orange Horizons announced a partnership with the South African distributor Nashua Mobile, enabling it to open four own-branded corners in stores based in key locations in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. Then Orange partnered Optimus in Portugal to open three corners in the operator's outlets in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro.
These stores provide additional services to customers travelling from neighbouring countries where Orange is already present, such as Spain or Botswana, or for customers travelling from France. With roaming offers, such as "Go Europe", customers from these countries can benefit from specific support services while abroad. These include the replacement of lost or stolen phones, the activation of international options, as well as expert assistance in subscribing to the most appropriate roaming pass depending on destination, length of stay and usage.
Likewise, Portuguese or South Africans travelling to these same three countries - France, Spain and Botswana - can also plan ahead by getting advice on the relevant offers.
Online activities
In addition to the physical stores, Orange Horizons has also continued to develop its online activities, having opened seven online stores in South Africa, Italy, Portugal, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark. The stores offer a product range covering the latest smartphones and tablets, as well as high-tech accessories.
To accompany the launch of these e-commerce sites, Orange Horizons is also developing over-the-top content websites specifically designed for audiences in each country.
The second of these country web portals, which are all published under the orange.com banner, was launched in Portugal last month. As for South Africa, Portuguese visitors have access to an aggregation site (www.orange.com/pt) that brings-together relevant content from local content partners and the Orange group's existing assets, such as Dailymotion. These websites are animated by local teams who bring together the most relevant content and services for local audiences.
Other country websites will open progressively; the next will be www.orange.com/it, which will be specifically designed for the Italian market and will go live by the end of July.
