Brian Berkman pays tribute to Lawrence Anthony
I met him while staying as his guest at Thula Thula in Zululand. He was recovering from a recent heart attack and spoke with the passion and energy of someone who had too much still undone.
I found him gracious, and generous with his time, despite being extremely busy.
He had just completed his newest book, The Last Rhino; was busy with The Earth Organisation projects which he founded.
He was also negotiating with the chiefs of properties adjacent to Thula Thula, to permit traversing rights so that people from Richard's Bay and Durban might be able to access The UmFolozi National Park from Thula Thula, rather than much further North.
He is survived by his wife and partner Francoise and family.
